If this was book 3 of the series I would have rated it five stars. Except this is book 7, not book 3. The story itself feels like an episode on the SyFy channel. Overall it will probably have an impact down the road but right now it didn't do much for me. I found myself skimming through a lot of pages. The book starts out well enough and as you would expect. Some conflict with Arys family. That lasts for about a 1/3 of the book and is resolved when the real story starts. The main story of this book is pretty much the after effect of book 3.

Parts of the story don't make sense to me which may have to do with the fact that Arys and Alexa make eye rolling, are you serious, decisions that keep making things worse. It's not limited to those two. Arys brother Jenner is right up there too. In the beginning there is an assault by a bunch of vampires. It's too dangerous for Alexa so she has to leave, but everybody else that was suppose to leave stays behind because it's okay for them. Alexa can face off with fallen demon Queen's but no named vamps are a danger. Seriously? I thought she was supposed to be a force.

What bothered me about this book is the lack of progress in the overall plot. There are questions still left unanswered or plot points that have been long ignored. What is a hound of God? Right now its Alexa's job title. By now we should know what that means. All we get are hints that its something special. Why does she still have Shya's brand? By now the brand should have been resolved and moved on to something more. Maybe she ends up with a different one but one would think that being indebted to a demon would be high priority to remove. Alexa is unconcerned with it. This book series feels like a tv series. Lots of filler with only touching on what's important.

For me there is to much character repetition. Alexa and Arys are okay together but they don't click like some novel couples do. I keep hoping they will turn into one of the fated couples that I enjoy really reading about but they haven't. The love triangle's with Shaz and Kale and a growing number of men remind me too much of when the Anita Blake novels went bad. Willow isn't really in this book but he makes an appearence. He's way too helpful and shady. Fallon shows up as well and that's the same old same old. He tells Alexa how much he hates her. She responds with the same. Blah blah blah with hate and threats that don't mean anything. Fallon is probably going to be in love with her but he had to fake it while she was bound to Shya or something like that.

To me it feels like the author drags things out too much. Uses the same formula with the same plot devices over and over again. Instead of progressing through them. It seems like so long ago we learned that Arys will turn Alexa. Well if you reveal it in book 2 or 3 but plan on doing it in book 12, what's the point in revealing it?

The actual story ends at 70% and there is 30% epilogue. The conflict with the books villain does get resolved toward the end but its hastily thrown in and takes less than a chapter to finish. The last chunk of the book is back in Edmonton with Alexa going through some filler and set up for the next book. Overall it felt like a few separate ideas were mashed together.

On the plus side the author does give some answers. Which is the only thing in the book that really means anything at all. The rest of it has no real impact that would require this book to be read. Alexa speaks with an ancient vampire (not really a spoiler since it is obvious in the book) who helps point her in the right direction. It's the best part of the book. It does look like the author might, and I use the world reluctantly, be ready to really bring things to a climactic conclusion in the next book. With the pace the author uses that could be drawn out over the next two or three books.

Freak Show Alexa O'Brien Huntress Series Book 7 eBook Trina M Lee Reviews

I absolutely love this author. Her books are well written and full of excitement. I too like other readers love that we dont feel that we have to choose between shaz or arys. But I loveeeeeee arys. I find him to be a complex character. He is a brutal and cunning predictor but his level of devotion, love for alexia along with his overall relationship with all the other characters is truly fun to read.

I especially like the fact that shaz has come to the point were he has a greater understanding and acceptance of arys in their lives.

This is a wonderful book and a fantastic series. A must buy, you will read it in 2 days. I did. Ohhhh and the sex......welll loll you will have to read to find out, but who doesnt like some gud bathroom sex. Oppppssss should I have said spoiler alert lol
I'm sorry, I wanted to love it but it felt a little bit like the author was on automatic pilot when she wrote this instalment. For me, Alexa had no real emotion about anything that was happening in this book, I don't want to go into detail as I don't want to inadvertently post any spoilers but Arys can apparently get away with anything now and there is no repercussions and the reconnection with Shaz was a little lacklustre. Having said that, I do like the series and yes I still like the characters enough that I will still buy the next book, but I do have my fingers crossed for more character development for Kale and Fallon, which will hopefully make the next book more interesting.
I so love this series. My only complaint is that the endings come like a rocket launch. I swear I just engle and boom... I highly recommend the Alexa O'Brien series to everyone who loves Urban Fantasy. Each character is so vivid and uniquely powerful which leads to such amazing plots. Trina is an awesome author. If you haven't read her work I urge you to 1click.
I am glad Alexa is finally waking up ignorance is not bliss. She is so frightened by the truth she hides from it making it more deadly for everyone involved. This was a turning point in the series because finally she is acknowledging what she needs to do and hopefully getting rid of denial. Arys is still a piece of work and I think he brings down Alexa. I wish she stepped up to him most of the time it gets annoying when Alexa acts passive towards him.
I wanted to wait until I got to at least this book before doing a feedback. I read all 7 straight in a row. I love Arys an Shaz both. My only complaint is Kale. I just don't Like him and don't know why Alexa has the hots for him. Sorry. Other than that, Jez, the leopard is great. U love all the relationships with the one exception. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Thx so much for books that can't be put down and wonderful storylines!!!
Man,what a freaking crazy ass story! So many twists and turns, I'm so glad they freed those people and made future plans to keep them safe. I'm so nervous about what happens next.
This is book seven in the series. Above is a good summary of the book. In this book we get to deal with Arys past as a vampire. Since, Alexa killed Arys's sire they now essentially own everything his sire controlled. They don't want it but have to go to Vegas to take care of this situation. Little do they know s***s about to hit the fan. Can Alexa and Arys face his past? Can they can the chaos that will ensue? It seems like Alexa is finally getting tired of facing crap all the time and dealing with trouble constantly. Plot is pretty solid as is the story line. Characters are okay they kinda seemed to just drift along in this story. By this I mean they are solid but just didn't develop since the last story. A good read if you have read the rest of the series.
